No claim bonus

A bonus is a reward, which allows discounts for claim-free period, while a malus results in an increase in premium for adverse claims experience.

The discount acts as an incentive to the insured to exercise care and caution while driving. That is why your No Claims Bonus is considered valuable. It can substantially reduce the amount you pay for your car insurance.

Each year with faultless claim, or no claim at all, will reduce the NCB by 5%. To calculate the new rate, you just have to multiply the previous one by 0.95. It takes thirteen consecutive years of faultless driving to obtain the maximum bonus (50%).

On the other hand, for each “at fault” accident, your rate is multiplied by 1.25. That means that your bonus can be deteriorated much faster than it was built.

All motor insurance companies in France operate a no claims bonus system. You will only be able to take advantage of this if you bring a letter from your previous insurer stating your current no claims status as well as the policy that you have held prior to arriving in France.

The further you can go back in time concerning your claim history, the higher the bonus we will be able to negotiate for you.

If you are unable to provide these details we will generally start your policy with no bonus, therefore giving you a higher premium.
